Man Hit By Car In NYC: Accident or Suicidal

I personally have a bad habit of jay walking in the city but what I witnessed today had me thinking and reflecting. On a beautiful spring day in NYC, on a Friday when denizens were getting ready to enjoy some happy hour with friends and then suddenly we’re stopped in our tracks on 3rd ave when a loud bang rippled through the sidewalks. Alas! A man had been hit! People suggested that he was suicidal by intentionally jumping in front of a moving car and clearly, it wasn’t his light to cross the street in the first place. Nevertheless, there he was, on the floor in what appeared to be lifeless. Luckily for him, there was a brain (neuro) doctor in our midst who attended to him. He was soon dismissed as soon as the EMT arrived. Many of us just stood there stunned while I locked my phone on record to capture this footage below. The driver of the car stood by the whole time in a state of shock. Hey who knows what this footage could unveil in the investigation that soon followed. Scores of police officers swamped the location with tapes and cameras to detail the scene assisted also by local attorney (visit their homepage to learn details). You would have easily mistaken it for a scene in a CSI New York series or something. I hope he gets well. This is some serious stuff!

NYC Celebrates Kidnapped Nigerian Girls Discovery!

IMG_9989x

For months, the whole world was rife with the disappearance of the kidnapped Nigerian Chibok 200+ girls with individuals, celebrities and world leaders taking to social media with the hashtag #bringourgirlsback. Rumors are now circulating with major headlines posted on Time magazine’s website that the girls may have been found! That alone calls for celebration in my opinion. The news could have been worse. Today, the famous Empire State building in New York City wasted no time in honoring this potential good news by lighting their building with the colors of the Nigerian flag, making it the very first time in history the building has ever done so. On that note, I myself wasted no time in capturing the historical moment with my camera. I intend to print out these images and frame them in my home to commemorate such a special occasion, for the girls and for my fellow human kind for showing kindness at a time like this. Thank you New York, thank you America!

If you have any interest in getting a copy of this image for home display, please do not hesitate to contact info@tinuonline.com. Please spread the word!

Man Sues Red Lobster Over Racial Slur Accusation

article-2467626-18D8BAEC00000578-650_634x347

Last year, a man named Devin Barnes in Franklin, Tennessee was accused of leaving a racial slur on his Red Lobster receipt in lieu of a tip. He has now filed a $1 million lawsuit against both the waitress who received the receipt and Red Lobster.

After Toni Christina Jenkins posted the receipt online last September, the Internet quickly assembled in support of the Red Lobster waitress, with coverage of her story and an online fundraiser called “Tips for Toni” that raised over $10,000. Now Barnes, who claims he never wrote the slur in the first place, is suing both Jenkins and Red Lobster for slandering his name and causing damage to his reputation.

Red Lobster released a statement after learning about the lawsuit:

“As we shared before, it is against our policy to post guest information online. Our standard procedure is to suspend the employee involved with pay while we determine what happened. After the completion of a full investigation into this matter, Miss Jenkins returned to work. As we also shared, we were disgusted by the language used on this guest check as it has no place in our restaurant or anywhere else.”

Barnes’ mother, Sallyann, told WCBD that her son’s reputation has been irreparably harmed, saying, “It’s still all over the Internet. It is still affecting his life and all of our lives.”

What can I tell you. Welcome to the American dream!

Dad Tosses Baby Violently Into The Pool

I sincerely hope his jail mate where he’s locked up makes this dad his bitch for doing this to his daughter. He too needs a “lesson” in jail if you know what I mean. I can honestly relate to this baby.  This was precisely how I was scared for life at age 8 and could not swim till today. He claims to be teaching the baby the dangers of pool. What kind of a father would do this to their own daughter! He actually did not not once by repeatedly! THIS IS JUST SICK!

Michael Jackson Is Alive!!!

Well…sort of. Even after death he is still making waves! Michael Jackson “performed” his latest single ‘Slave to the Rhythm’ off his posthumous album Xscape and managed to steal the show at the Billboard Awards via hologram! The move by his family to allow this to be done to a dead man has been met with controversy worldwide. Who knows, perhaps Whitney Houston, Elvis Presley, James Brown and TuPac are coming up next. Meanwhile the patent holder of the hologram technology are suing Billboard for infringement! Sigh…wherever there’s money there’s trouble. Nevertheless, get ready with your Kleenex. This is indeed groundbreaking! RIP MJ! You are THE one and only King of Pop!

Man Sneaks Under Ugly Betty’s America Ferrara Dress

WOW! Not what you would expect at the pretigious Cannes Film Festival. Ugly Betty’s America Ferrara was standing on the red carpet during a photo op for her upcoming movie when a prankster came looking underneath her dress, perhaps to see if she was wearing underwear! What a creep! Watch the video footage and check out the images below to see how it all unfolded. It’s the same guy who crashed Adele’s speech at the Grammys last year and tried to kiss Will Smith during his press junket posted here. How in the world does he get pass all the security red tapes at these events anyway? Poor girl.

African Fashion Soaked Up In High Price

20140515_224613x

African ankara skirt I had made to order for $20 in Africa

Screen Shot 2014-05-16 at 1.46.55 PM

A green version of the $20 skirt I’m wearing above, found at Saks NYC for $$$!!!

This is for all of you shopaholics out there not well educated in the art of African “Ankara” fabrics. You see, Africans have been wearing geometric print fabrics for centuries at milestone events, rituals, farm work and so forth. The fabric is part and parcel of everyday life in Africa, especially West Africa. The fabric is sold in yards very affordably so you can imagine my excitement when I started seeing it mainstream fashion market in the western part of the world like the US and Europe. I was especially excited yesterday when I spotted a rack full of them at Saks, a super high end store in NYC where I saw the exact print of the skirt I bought in Africa a few years ago! However, I was taken aback when I laid eyes on the price tag that came with it. I understand that the store has to maintain the 5th Avenue location and pay employees but I could not get over paying $700 or so for the same print I paid $10-$20 for in Africa! Mine was made to made to my body shape, the $700 version is off the rack. By definition, the one from Africa made BY HAND is couture and should be valued more! About 3 years ago, the British high fashion brand Burberry had their version, claiming to have been “inspired by architectures of buildings” to come up with the print! HELLO! Look at the images farther below and tell me if that is not an African print! That outfit had a $1000+ price tag! Bed Bath & Beyond did a duvet cover from African fabric patchwork fabric from Ghana with a $500 price tag.

So far, the brands that have managed to be more realistic with their price points have been Zara and H&M! I sashayed over to the other side of the street opposite Saks selling the $800-$2000 versions to pick up $25 creations at H&M. Let me be quick to add that the fabrics are all the SAME QUALITY! Shoe designers also use them for their creations like the Stuart Weitzman version seen on Beyonce on sale for $2500!

I guess with bright lights, 5th avenue address, silky designer label and beautiful mannequin in a fancy store, you forget what you’re paying for. I often wondered how much of that high price tag goes back to the poor villages making the fabrics in Africa, the REAL source!

Celebrities (sample posted here on my facebook page) are now wearing the fabric on the red carpet! It’s only a matter of time before the makers in Africa get a wind of the high prices in the west and that would only result to a price hike on their end too. Heaven help us!

So when next you’re out shopping for the African “Ankara” fabric styles, be sure to educate yourself and be wise enough to know where you can get them for less. A train ride to Brooklyn/Queens/Bronx to an African boutique will save you bundle! Be sure to preview all of the images below.

Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Miley Cyrus Make Up Disaster!

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Spotted in Midtown Manhattan

Oh dear heavens! What happened to Angelina Jolie’s face?! Are makeup artists that much in a hurry these days? We are still recovering from Arianna’s concealers at the White House Dinner Correspondent dinner! Perhaps this trend is intentional to get buzz and attention for her upcoming movie “Maleficent”. Well, we certainly are all talking about it. It worked!

However, she won’t be the first actress to have played the game. See the images below.

Billionaire Street Brawl OMG!

article-2626830-1DCA3E0B00000578-848_634x742

Is it a full moon somewhere? We’ve been witnessing a lot of brawling lately. First the one on St Marks Place, then Solange vs Jay Z and now to top it all (I hope this is it) are 2 BILLIONAIRES (not millionaires) flying blows at each other allegedly over women! Sigh…what’s cooking people?!

According to the Daily Mail: These extraordinary photographs show the moment two of Australia’s richest men started brawling in the street after falling out when one of them left his wife and starting dating model Miranda Kerr.

James Packer and David Gyngell, both media moguls, have been friends since childhood, and Mr Gyngell was best man at Mr Packer’s wedding to wife Erica.

But last year Mr Packer, 46 – son of pioneering broadcaster Kerry Packer – announced that he had separated from his wife, and allegedly began a relationship with Ms Kerr, Orlando Bloom’s ex-wife.

Mr Gyngell, 48, apparently confronted his friend outside his Sydney home, and the pair began rowing about Mr Packer’s treatment of his estranged spouse.

The two men, who both own extensive entertainment businesses, had to be separated by bodyguards, and were later fined $500 (£280) each for ‘offensive behaviour’.

Mr Gyngell accepted responsibility for the fight and pledged to co-operate with the police investigation into the incident.

‘He fully accepts that he was the instigator of the incident,’ a spokesman said. ‘Clearly, had he not turned up at Packer’s premises in an angry mood then the confrontation would never have occurred.’

The pair have told friends that they regret the fight and insist they will remain on good terms.

Mr Gyngell’s wife Leila McKinnon today poked fun at the controversy, comparing it to the fight between Beyoncé’s wife Jay-Z and her sister Solange Knowles.

‘Ok so they’re much better dressed and a little more discreet but I feel a kinship with Beyonce, Solange, and Jay Z today,’ she tweeted.

Solange was caught on camera in New York’s Standard Hotel wildly attacking Jay Z after the Met Gala after-party, requiring burly security guards to break up the fracas.

Ms McKinnon’s light-hearted stab at her husband and his best man was well received by her Twitter followers and has so far been retweeted more than 80 times.

A Channel 9 publicist said: ‘Leila is on maternity leave and not doing interviews as such… she really doesn’t have anything to add.’
