The Association of Indians in America put on a fabulous Deepavali Festival of Lights event at South Street Seaport in New York City yesterday. It gave me the perfect excuse to dust off the red silk salwar kameez I bought and wore in India during my visit. Still good as new and still fits! Thank God. I blended in quite well considering most southern Indians are usually as dark skin as me and I happen to speak a bit of Hindi, just a bit. The event had food, merchandise vendors and live entertainment. Water street could have been mistaken for a street fair in New Delhi. I had loads of fun judging by the images below which includes me getting a henna and immersing myself in the Bollywood movie set scenery. 🙂
