Going Topless In NYC! Is It Legal?

Wait…just before you throw stones you might want to hear what Moira has to say in the video footage below. I met her while in a different state of mind running to the Post Office to drop off an urgent package. I was just about to enter the federal building (post office) when I spotted a lady right in front of it shedding off her blouse to catch the sun ray. At first I thought a hidden camera or a “Girls Gone Wild” video crew might be lurking around the corner. I was shocked to learn from the lady herself that she just felt hot from the sun and needed to catch some air. Then I thought it could also be some kind of protest, a movement of some sort. She said no it’s just a normal day for her, that it’s actually legal for women to go topless in the State of New York!

As a curious cat, I couldn’t help myself. It didn’t take me long enough to whip out my camera to have her tell the world this news. While we were busy recording and getting to know each other, a crowd had already swelled around us, many people asking various questions, some women stepping in to give her a high five and hugs! Cops came and went and said not a word! You as a tax payer might want to see this article about a lawsuit in 2007, a reason why they are untouchable.

As a jaded New Yorker, I thought I had seen it all, apparently not.

Moira, who eagerly educated the crowd, anyone with ears, including myself, told us that going topless in NYC has been legal since 1992 unbeknownst to many of us! I was particularly surprised to see many gentlemen passing by actually behaving well. They asked sensible questions while women of a certain age, who might have rallied in the women’s civil rights back in the day stopped by to congratulate her for “carrying on their work” in this day in age. Moira dutifully thanked them in return for paving the way for women like her today. It was as if a virtual baton was being passed between the generation of women.

So, how many of you out there can be bold and brave enough to do what Moira did?

Unfortunately, there will always be a cop who didn’t pay attention in training. The cop arrested her a few minutes later but had to release her eventually.

My First Billbard Ad On Times Square

My Very First Espadrilles! OMG!

It’s official, Summer is definitely here! I finally caved and added an espadrille to my shoe collection. This would also be my very first pair of shoes by Bebe! Can you imagine that? I can’t even imagine what took me this long to own an espadrille much less from which brand. I never thought in my wildest dreams I would own a pair from the chain store. I own some of their comfortable everyday clothing for street wear but none of their shoes. It’s not just any espadrilles, it’s a particular pair featuring multicolored beads on vegan leather. Since my skin is brown, the colorful beads stand out as I walk. I love it!

However there is only one downside to this “vegan” leather. It has a potent rubber smell or that distinctive, unmistakeable factory smell that I now have to spend days airing out with hot steamy shower! What was I expecting for $129? I guess I have to suck it up and just enjoy my purchase. Not sure if the picture does it justice. Good things still come in small packages

Supporting The Arts With Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex

I love art and I think the Versailles Palace in France falls in this category. The Versailles Foundation Fundraiser Gala, held once a year centered around a Royal Personage, is a non-profit organization that rehabilitates and preserves important historical monuments in France such as the Claude Monet Museum at Giverny and The Chateau De Versailles. I have been a supporter of their mission for quite some time now and adore what they have done so far keeping the palace and museum “alive” in France. Thanks to them, tourists visiting the grand opulent palace once home to the larger-than-life Marie-Antoinette, have something to marvel at during their visits.

In the past, I have had the opportunity to meet the likes of Queen Noor of Jordan, Princess Michael of Kent, King Simeon II Saxe-Coburg and Gotha of Bulgaria, to name a few at this annual gala. This year, I had the pleasure of meeting HRH Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex for the second time (the first was a few years ago pictured farther below. He’s the youngest son of Queen Elizabeth II). The Prince gave a lovely speech on Henry VIII with it a different spin that makes one forget they have heard the story before. Had he not been a Royal he would have given the likes of Comedian Billy Crystal a run for their money. He has an uncanny sense of humor and an unmatchable wit. His aides (handlers) were equally friendly and very approachable. I only wish I could say the same for American aides who guard our so called celebrities on this side of the pond. I don’t remember the last time I had this much fun at a charity gala. I had the opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new ones.

I wore a dress by Ralph Lauren, filigree gold leather clutch by Kippys, shoes by Dior and jewelry by Chanel and vintage Ciner.

NYC Landowners Beware!

A downtown landowner had a close shave today. He felt the wrath of labor union workers working at the ongoing World Trade Center adjoining subway station on John Street/Broadway in New York City. At first I thought it was the Occupation Wall Street riot happening again since the location is literally 3 blocks away. It turned out to be a large group of Union construction workers protesting in front of the building shown below demanding the site be shut down and turn the labor force to the Union workers. It didn’t take long at all for the New York Police Department to dispatch a couple of armed police force to the site to protect the building and the landowner from harm.

I spoke to one of the Union workers who had this to say, “These landlords need to stop this nonsense of giving jobs to Chinese and Mexicans and stop using them as slaves. They pay them below minimum wages just to save money. What about their safety, medical coverage, families to feed at home? Why cut corners? This is America, they need to process all jobs through the Union!”

The gathering increased more within the hour all chanting “Shut this down!”

Well, there you have it. If you ever come into some money and have the itch to build (or rebuild) your fancy dream townhouse or commercial office building in the city, you might want to consult the “oracle” of the Union to avoid this calamity. I had no idea there was even such a rule until today!

These Are Just Too Cool To Pass Up! OMG!

My latest “work” shoes. I stumbled upon them at a small boutique while grocery shopping in NYC. What are the chances? I call them the “Spats” designed by United Nude. I own all types of shoes but never in my life have I seen anything quite like these. They feel so comfortable, versatile and so durable. What comes to mind is definitely not high fashion but more like work shoes with a twist. I think this spring-summer I will be trolling about town in these shoes, my latest IT thing. I love them so much! They are almost similar to the male vintage version shown in the April-June 2012 print issue of Shoeholics Magazine now in stores pictured farther below on a male model. These are just so unique!

A Black Woman “Cut Open” In Sweden As A Cake! Not Cool!

I literally cried when I watched this video of what is to be a naked black woman being “cut open” as a cake at her private part region up to her stomach in Sweden and have the guts to call it “Painful Cake”! I love the Swedes but this is just bloody RACIST! This also included their Minister of Culture Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth taking part in the cutting of the cake as shown here in this image. Also see the comment the artist posted on her facebook page about the incident.

This has now sparked accusations of racism from the African community in Sweden. I don’t blame them at all. This one is below the belt! Preview the video footage below. Farther below is what it looks like after several cuts!
