Halloween on a Saturday? YAASS!

New Yorkers (and revelers who traveled from far and wide) have done it again with another historic memorable moment at last’s annual Halloween Parade in New York City! Having the world renowned performance artist extraordinaire, Joey Arias as the Grand Marshall leading the realm, with the support of the iconic Susanne Bartsch… The parade was fail safe! Fun and jubilation was in abundance, spectators on the curb was at least 10 rows deep. I guess having Halloween fall on a Saturday naturally would be a solid reason for the turn out. We won’t have the opportunity again until 2037! So, if you were at home on the couch Netflixing and chilling, you missed a lot! Halloween Parade is everyone’s favorite, and the Thanksgiving parade hanging right up there with it at the top.

Families, including days old babies dressed up in varieties of costumes, young denizens and old geriatrics in wheelchairs turned up. People camp hours in advance on the curb behind the barricades for prime spots, armed with their cameras to capture the memorable moments. I cover quite a number of parades and city events all year round and I must say, this is the only parade that I can think of where there are no fanfare politicians opening or marching down the avenue ahead of the Grand Marshall to open the show. Over the years, organizers of the event, a non profit initiative, has taken it upon themselves to keep it purely about the fun with no sidetrack gimmicks and distractions. However, participants are welcome to make their own political statements within the event as they march on using costumes or displays to express their views and messages. As in previous years, yesterday was no different. Several revelers had messages for President Trump and messages to the viewers reminding them to vote next week in the upcoming midterms. It wouldn’t be America without free speech!
