Yeap! It finally came to fruition! I posted on my facebook page on March 9, 2014 declaring that major makeup companies should consider picking up the newly minted Oscar winner as their spokesmodel. I mean, just look at her skin and how well she wear colors! NO other race or skin tone can hold colors more than a flawless dark skin. As it turns out, it was announced today that she would be the new face of Lancome! I think I missed my calling. I should have been a fortune teller! Bravo Lupita!

I used to wonder why some years ago when I first came to the US from Africa, why African Americans disliked me at the time. Some even went as far as yelling at me to go back to Africa! That would be my first “racist” experience ever, from my own kind. After hearing the story of this brave and smart boy, it brought back a lot of painful memories. I guess it makes sense no….to a certain degree…

The story of the first-generation Ghanian-American student accepted by all eight Ivy league schools is wonderful, but it also stirs up the tension between black Americans and recent African immigrants — especially when you describe him as “not a typical African-American kid.” That’s been the reaction to USA Today‘s profile on Kwasi Enin, a Long Island high schooler who got into the nation’s most competitive schools through hard work and, according to IvyWise CEO Katherine Cohen, being African (and being male). At one point the piece reads:

“Being a first-generation American from Ghana also helps him stand out, Cohen says. “He’s not a typical African-American kid.”

“Not a typical African-American kid” is being read as an allusion to the lazy black American stereotype. The tension comes from the fact that some African immigrants buy into that stereotype, which gets turned into “Africans don’t like black people.” This has almost nothing to do with Enin, who is obviously a remarkable young man, and everything to do with how America perceives and portrays black Americans and African immigrants.

In January, Luvvie Ajayi, a Nigerian-born immigrant, tried to explain “akata,” a word some Nigerians use to refer to black Americans that translates into wild animal. (Note: A lot of Nigerians use akata to mean “ghetto” as well. My mom once told me I was dressed like an akata girl because I wanted to wear sweatpants in public.) She argued in a series of tweets, collected by Clutch, that the reason some Africans believe black Americans should be doing better is because they don’t know about the history of black Americans but see their own success as a reason blacks should excel as well. “Africans who come to the U.S. are statistically more successful than African Americans and they think ‘if I could do it, why not them?'” she wrote.

American society holds that same view as well. A 2007 study covered by theWashington Post found that a quarter of black students admitted to elite colleges were African immigrants, though they only represented 13 percent of America’s college-age black population. The study’s authors several theories on why black immigrants do better, including “to white observers black immigrants seem more polite, less hostile, more solicitous and ‘easier to get along with.’ Native blacks are perceived in precisely the opposite fashion.”

Lani Guinier, a Harvard professor, argued instead that schools were attempting to “resolve historic wrongs against native black Americans by enrolling immigrants who look like them” but had different experiences. “In part, it has to do with coming from a country … where blacks were in the majority and did not experience the stigma that black children did in the United States,” Guinier said. Either explanation creates a divide — as if Africans can only succeed at the expense of black Americans, or vice versa.

And then you have the endless lines of movie star hopefuls praying to be discovered and become famous. However, Amani Terrell begged to differ by adopting a different angle all together. She stripped down to her bikini in an effort to promote body confidence in Tinsel Town known to put so much pressure on women to stay skinny. She cat walked up and down the street to mixed reviews by onlookers. One thing is certain. She definitely got her 15 minutes of fame because Fox News was there to capture the whole ordeal! Hey! There are more ways to skin the cat and I think Julia Robert’s character in “Pretty Woman” will approve. You can’t blame her. Get it Amani!

Birther, right-wing nut job, and aging actor Steven Seagal jumped into the deep end when he threw his full support behind Russian President Vladimir Putin and his recent actions.

While shooting a movie in Romania, Seagal told Russian media that Putin’s “desire to protect the Russian-speaking people of Crimea, his assets, and the Russian Black Sea military base in Sevastopol…is very reasonable.”

Seagal also called Putin “one of the great world leaders” and said he “would like to consider him as a brother.”

He also took the opportunity to slam President Obama and the United State’s foreign policy as “idiotic,” and that the United States media is simply trying to promote the President’s agenda.

Seagal has bonded with Putin over their shared love of martial arts, and will be staring in a, “Soviet-style initiative promoting physical fitness in Russia called “Ready for Labor and Defense.”

Because if there is one thing that promotes physical fitness, it’s an overweight, has-been actor with a ponytail.

Seagal was also asked if he would ever relocate to Russia.  He stated that he may “sometime” immigrate.  Ironic, since he dislikes immigrants in the United States.

Seagal….“has carved out a niche for himself as a conservative provocateur, penning columns for “Birther” conspiracy hub World Net Daily and making appearances on behalf of Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who has been charged by the federal government with unfairly targeting Hispanics and immigrants in the name of enforcing immigration laws.”

There used to be a time when we would say Seagal is right on the border of committing treason.  Today, we just call him a Republican.  Then again, why do we care what he has to say?

Watch Steven Seagal give full support to the Russian invasion of Crimea, while denouncing America and its own media.

Barbara Hutton must be turning in her grave as we speak. Remember the teenage girl in New Jersey who tried suing her parent for child support not too long ago? Well she lost that case! 18-year-old Rachel Canning announced that she would be attending Western New England University – a medium-sized, four-year, private university in Springfield, Massachusetts and bragged about getting $56k in scholarship even though tuition is only $32,600
‘Decision made,’ Canning, a Morris Catholic High School senior, wrote as reported by NJ.com. ‘WNE U class of 2018 [biomedical engineering] major w/ 56,000$ [sic] scholarship.’

She was bragging about winning a considerable scholarship in a Facebook post.

This is a girl who made headlines last month after deciding to sue her parents Elizabeth and Sean Canning for child support and tuition when they kicked her out of the house for not obeying rules. In shocking legal documents submitted to the court throughout the process, the honor-roll student said her parents’ behavior contributed to her developing an eating disorder at a young age and saw her weight plummet. She also said that her father had an ‘inappropriate affection’ for her and accused her mother Elizabeth of being the cause of her bulimia.

She argued that since her parents have a combined yearly income of between $250,000 and $300,000, she was entitled to $654-a-week in child support. Rachel’s controversial legal battle was funded by the father of her best friend, millionaire lawyer Jon Inglesino. The Cannings believed he enabled their daughter’s behavior.

Meanwhile, there’s probably a kid more deserving of that scholarship from a less fortunate family who might not get a chance to see the inner walls of a fine college! Sigh…
