“Extreme” Looks At London Fashion Week

As seen at London Fashion Week showing the Fall 2013 collection. England has always been on the fore front of fashion evolution with the likes of McQueen and Westwood leading the way for years. But some of the looks seen below left me gasping for air. Granted fashion is art and designers must push the envelope to get the attention needed for their brand. I am speechless. Or could it be that I have gone soft? Hmm…

See 75-Yr-Old Edgar Price Working Out!

After watching 75-year-old Edgar Price do headstands, among many other things…well….I have no excuse anymore. I definitely want to be able to do at least half of the things he is able to do when I get to be 75 also. Like all things, God willing!

This man is in the best shape of his life! My hats off to him. Watch the video footage below and see for yourself. WOW!

Tourist Lady Reacts To Pricey Shoes

I saw this lovely tourist lady at a major department shoe store in New York on Valentine’s Day. She was bent on getting red bottom shoes because of the color for her special date. New in town from Oklahoma to check out the big city scenery. Upon seeing the bottom, she literally started crying when she saw the price tag! Obviously not used to shopping in big cities and seeing this kind of prices. I felt her pain too. I almost cried with her! I wonder what she would have done if she had seen the $6000+ price tag posted here. That would have been a sight!

Pope Benedict XVI To Resign

Pope Benedict will be stepping down on February 28th. According to Yahoo news, the 85yr old pope said he lacked the strength to fulfill his duties. He will become the first pontiff in 600 years to resign.

The announcement sets the stage for a conclave in March to elect a new leader for world’s 1 billion Catholics. It was also gathered that Pope Benedict announced the bombshell in Latin during a meeting of Vatican cardinals, surprising even his closest collaborators, even though Benedict had made clear in the past he would step down if he became too old or infirm to do the job. He said there was no outside pressure but called his choice “a decision of great importance for the life of the church.

Finding Nemo: A Winter Wonderland At Central Park

The snow blizzard Nemo was a blessing in disguise. I have been waiting a whole year for this opportunity to see Central Park in its glory, when it’s fully covered in thick soft white snow. The appearance could easily transform the city to rival any town in Scandinavia or the north pole. I couldn’t wait to be one of the first to set foot in the park right after the down pour of snow, when it’ still fresh and powdery. Alas! A romantic winter wonderland in New York City!

I was up and fully charged by 4am only to find other photographers out there with the same idea in mind. I felt like I was part of a community. We helped each other to find good spots and gave good tips on which part of the park to check out for the best scenery. There’s nothing like shooting in the virgin snow. The idea was to get as many pictures as possible before the general masses woke up to sledge through the snow with their dogs, cats, kids and grandmothers. The unspoilt thick snow dust covered the park beautifully. It was a sight to behold. I was in my element. This was Disney World for me as a photographer.

New York missed out on any sight of snow last year, so we had blizzard Nemo to make up for it. The snow was abundant.

Here are a few of my favorites from my photography work on Central Park. It was hard narrowing them down to these selections. If you see any image you fancy, just click on it to preview the enlarged version. As usual darling, all rights reserved. Enjoy 🙂

John Galliano The Comeback Kid?

Shall we call this a comeback? John Galliano, the disgraced designer who was fired from Christian Dior after anti-semetic rants in a Paris bar, is finally firing back. On Monday, he won the first round in a case against Dior in French Labor Relations Court, according to his lawyer, Chantal Giraud-van Gaver of Coblence & Associés. The court ruled that it was fit to hear the designer’s claims against his dismissal from Dior in March 2011.

A lawyer for the other side, Christian Dior Couture, argued that the case should be heard by a commercial court because of the elaborate contracts held between the house at the designer. That lawyer, Jean Néret of Jeantet Associés, argued that Galliano should be viewed as an independent contractor of the company, rather than as an employee.

During the trial, the intricacies of Galliano’s salary were detailed. According to WWD, he earned a fixed gross annual salary of 1 million euros (around $1.3 million) at Christian Dior Couture, as well as $906,400 in “variable compensation,” a wardrobe budget of 30,000 euros (about $38,850), and a grooming budget of $77,700 for personal appearances. And that was just Dior: Galliano also operated his own namesake brand, where he apparently earned a fixed gross salary of 2 million euros (roughly $2.6 million) and a separate clothing budget of 70,000 euros (or $90,650). In addition, Galliano got paid separately as a consultant for Christian Dior Couture and Parfums Christian Dior on creative matters like ad campaigns, runway shows, and Websites.

When asked if the sum of 6 million euros – or $7.77 million – was accurate for his salary, Giraud-van Gaver reportedly said: “If you add it all up, then probably yes, because if you are earning more than 3 million euros a year and you add severance pay on top, it quickly adds up.”

Dior reportedly has 15 days to contest the ruling. If it opposes, the case will go to the court of appeals in seven to nine months. Galliano, meanwhile, has been in residence at Oscar de la Renta’s studio in New York, presumably helping the designer on his upcoming collection for New York Fashion Week.

Beyonce Pays Homage To Legends

Beyonce paid homage to many greats before her at the Superbowl, particularly Michael Jackson and Tina Turner. The solo guitarist spotlight was hard to miss, as well as fellow Destiny’s Child mate Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams on stage pop up. Michael Jackson comes to mind. Tina Turner is still inspiring many generations to come, with the legs and costume. It is hard not to compare the now Swiss citizen diva at 50 to Beyonce at the recent Superbowl in what looked like a similar costume. Pepsi expected Beyonce to a deliver show stopping performance for $15 million bucks paid to her and that was what they got. She nailed it and seized the opportunity to announce her upcoming world tour, the very moment when everyone was still recovering from the extravagant night. Very well done, I am hoping to see the New York part of the world tour at the Barcleys Center. Keep up the good work. Fabulous! 🙂

Alicia Keys vs Beyonce on the National Anthem.

Just a few days ago at the presidential inauguration, Beyonce caused a national frenzy when she lip synced the national anthem. That led her to doing it live at the Superbowl pregame press conference to regain the nation’s heart and to silence critics. And now, Alicia Keys did her version at the opening of the Superbowl game. The battle of the divas to gain the nation’s love continues. So, Beyonce or Alicia Keys, who did it best?
