The 46th annual West Indies Day Parade 2013 in Brooklyn (Labor Day Parade) compared to last year was a bit modest and slightly commercial. Despite the threatening rain and extreme humidity, it didn’t slow down the participants. Politicians vying for votes took to the parade like it was going out of fashion. At first you would have thought it was a “politician men march” due to the large numbers which included the likes of Spitzer to Weiner wooing the crowd. Mayor Bloomberg walked the entire parade route drenched in sweat!

So without further ado, please preview the pictures and video footage. You DEFINITELY DO NOT want to miss viewing the video footage. Just make sure your kids are nicely tucked in bed before you press play.

New York City is known for many things but I don’t think many people can boost of having met one of the world’s best. I was lucky to find myself at Casa La Femme restaurant in New York City during a birthday celebration where Valerie Levine had us all gazing with our mouths on the floor. She’s definitely not your everyday performer. This talented lady is so well rounded in all types of dance ranging from Belly Dancing to Ballroom. Valerie skillfully combined them during her belly dancing routine at the restaurant. For instance, when was the last time you saw a belly dancer do a full split while balancing a tray of burning candles on her stomach? It’s a walk in the park for Valerie!

What can I say. I’m in a full summer mode. Wearing colors can be uplifting even on a dull day. Got colorful shoes? Think outside the box, dress them up from the feet up and enjoy the summer to the full extent. 🙂

I believe dark skin people (like me) pull off bold and “loud” colors better than any other type of skin tone. So if you’re dark skin don’t be afraid to use your body as a perfect color palette to show your bright wardrobe. I particularly like neons, especially for a night out. What better way to be seen! It worked perfectly well with my Dior mini gold saddle bag. 🙂

Spring in the summer, but why not. Many designers are showing floral frocks for fall season but retail giants like Zara rushed to the “gate” ahead of them and I didn’t waste anytime in grabbing a set. Sold as separates (jacket & pant) but I decided to cut mine into a pair of shots! I hope you like the look as much as I do. I think it works. 🙂

A perfect day to burst out the sunny “good girl” dress. I acquired the Escada leopard & floral print dress and matching scarf (secured in place with a vintage pin around my face) a few years ago and just now getting around to wearing the set with a pair of Dior slides and cowhide leather Gucci bag I bought sometime ago as well. Well made products never goes out of style as they say. Good investment to say the least.
