You Think You Can Dance?

Think you can dance? Before you answer that, hold your tongue until you’ve seen this video footage below. I’m left wondering myself how the human body can do most of moves they did. And I can only hope that there were wearing knee pads! I certainly was inspired. It makes me want to sign up for a dance class! AMAZING!  😆

Building Explosion In Harlem

article-0-1C3ABCCC00000578-234_634x504Residents are feared trapped in a Manhattan apartment building that exploded this morning in the East Harlem neighborhood, killing two women and injuring around 17 others.

A gas leak is suspected of causing the building on the corner of 116th Street and Park Avenue to burst into flames, as residents reported smelling a strange odor to ConEdison right before the blast.

Those in the area reported hearing a loud boom and thick black smoke in the area a little after 9am, and some were even evacuated.

A spokesperson for ConEd told NBC4 that at 9:13am they received a call from a resident at neighboring 1652 Park Avenue saying she smelled gas in the bedroom of her apartment.

‘She indicated that the odor may have been coming from the outside of the building,’ he said.

The company dispatched a crew two minutes later but they got there just moments after the explosion, he said.

Mount Sinai and Harlem hospitals have received 16 injured in the explosion so far, with one patient being treated for serious head trauma.

At least one man was seen being rescued from the building, and was led away from the scene on a stretcher.

James DeJesus lives on the same block as the building that exploded, and took a dramatic photo that shows the damage after the blast.

DeJesus and his family live at 89 East 116th street and the blast was so strong, he first assumed the fire was in his building. article-0-1C3A9E3700000578-24_634x367

‘We were all sleeping when it happened. I looked out my window and saw debris, smoke and people panicking and screaming,’ DeJesus told MailOnline.

He says he and other residents had been smelling a faint gas odor in the days leading up to the explosion.

However, ConEd spokesman Elizabeth Matthews told PIX that the only complaint they have on file is the call that came in at 9:13am.

Matthews says they take odor complaints ‘very seriously’ and a crew was dispatched just two minutes after receiving the call.

Matthews says ConEd is working with firefighters and have the leak under control. She says residents in the area shouldn’t worry about another blast.

Denise Ortiz was nearby when she heard the explosion, and described a gruesome scene to NBC 4.

‘People who were living in the building, they flew out when the blast hit,’  Ortiz said. ‘It knocked everyone into the debris.’

She added that she initially worried the Metro North had been targeted in an attack.

‘It sounded like a bomb went off,’ she told NBC 4. ‘Everyone started screaming, “They blew up the Metro North!” But when we ran over there , we saw a building had collapsed and it was not the Metro North.’

Police say the explosion was definitely not a terrorist attack.

Relatives of the building’s residents gathered in the streets below, pleading for help about their loved ones.

‘My brother lives there, and I can’t get through!’ one unidentified woman sobbed as she spoke to NBC4. ‘They’re telling me I can’t get through!’

‘My daughter!’ another cried as she put her hand to her mouth. ‘I wanna know if she’s down. Please help me – help me please!’

A woman who lives in a building just a block away says she was sleeping when she heard the explosion and  the blast rocked her building.

‘I was basically sleeping and my whole wall shook, my whole room was shaking and it basically blew my window up. It opened up,’ the woman told PIX11. ‘My lights and my stuff on my dresser fell off. I thought it was a bomb.’

The five-story building is located 1644-1646 Park Avenue and houses a Spanish Christian Church on the bottom floor.

One witness said that the explosion knocked groceries off shelves at a nearby supermarket, while NBC4’s Jonathan Vigliotti reported from the scene that numerous stores had had their windows blown out.

‘There are about 10 store fronts, half of them have their windows blown out,’ he said. ‘It’s really hard to even see through [the smoke]. The entire area Cops everywhere, fire fighters everywhere.’

Another witness told NBC4 that she saw people running towards the building to help anyone who was hurt.article-0-1C3A8A0B00000578-568_634x420

‘It was chaos,’ she said.

Metro-North Railway has elevated tracks right next to the west of the building, and the New Haven line in and out of the city through Grand Central Terminal have been temporarily suspended.

Passengers reported being ordered off the train and onto the platform at the nearby 125th Street station.

The smoke was so thick that reporters covering the explosion from news helicopters were at one point ordered out of the area.

FBI officials are on the scene investigating the blast.

Oscars 2014 –My Observation

1509138_465986433501324_459260299_nThe biggest night in Hollywood turned out to be as glam and dazzling as ever. The usual stuff except for a few things I couldn’t help but wonder. Such as why Best adapted screenplay winner for 12 Years A Slave, John Ridley walked past the movie’s producer/director Steve McQueen without so much as a handshake or hug on his way to the stage to accept his golden dude and deliberately left Steve out of his thank you speech. Hmm…I smell trouble happening over there.

And why in God’s name was Lady Gaga at the Oscars? She was the last one to arrive, long after all the actors who actually had a movie to promote had already been seated. For maximum attention perhaps.

It’s no secret that Lupita was highly favored as the front runner for this year’s Oscars. I don’t know if anyone noticed that the Oscar producers switched the announcement of the Best supporting actress category with the best supporting actor category to a later time slot in the show. The women’s category is usually announced much earlier. This was because the women’s category was highly anticipated by everyone and if it was announced early most viewers would have tuned out, especially if Lupita lost it to Jennifer. Nice call producers! Screen Shot 2014-03-03 at 5.36.19 PM It must have been a huge relief for Jennifer Lawrence (who fell yet again). Had she won, she most likely would have suffered a huge backlash. She’s young, there’s still many more Oscars to come.

As much as the world would like to despise Kim Kardashian, she does look stunning at the Elton John Oscar party in va va voom red! See the picture below. She cleaned up well.

Now that Lupita Nyong’o is officially the Hollywood IT girl of the year, how long would it take for editrix Anna Wintour to have her grace the coveted cover of Vogue magazine? Sadly, white actresses only need to release a new pop corn movie and they get the cover, black actresses have to win or be nominated for an Oscar to get anywhere near the cover (ala Jennifer Hudson, Halle Berry), or have over 50 million social media followers for maximum exposure for the magazine to get the cover (ala Beyonce, Rihanna). Lupita Nyong’o is due for a Vogue cover like many other starlets they’ve featured just for releasing a new movie much less winning an Oscar. Let’s make it happen Anna Wintour! 1455069_540145959400642_1530455065_n

And of course I have to give the best photo crasher  and best award winning reaction to Lupita (& her brother) who unfortunately forgot to thank Brad Pitt in her acceptance speech. Brad was one of the producers of the epic winning picture. Who can blame her, it was her first time ever at the Oscars! Emotions were running high and I might have done the same.Screen Shot 2014-03-02 at 11.00.00 PM

Lupita won many fans over in her fairytale Prada “Nairobi Blue” flowing frock. Is it safe to say that Prada is now becoming the “good luck” charm at the Oscars? Anne Hathaway who won last year also wore Prada that caused quite a frenzy when she dropped Valentino at the last minute to wear the dress in question. Sigh….actresses worldwide, now you know the winning trick. Just get a good role and wear Prada!

In my opinion, Ellen DeGeneres did a fabulous job bringing the stuffy and out of date Oscar programming to date with well timed jokes and pizza! Not only did she cause a twitter frenzy with the epic selfie plugging the product by one of the show’s sponsor (Samsung phone), but also hit the nail on the head one too many times. “Possibility number one: Twelve Years a Slave wins Best Picture. Possibility number two: You’re all racists. And now welcome our first white presenter, Anne Hathaway!”
Don’t hold it against her, this is afterall America! 1506903_10200634537944608_210121353_n article-2571848-1BFB6D5F00000578-444_964x675 Screen Shot 2014-03-02 at 11.08.29 PM

Elisabeth Rohm of “American Hustle” Red Carpet Fiasco

My heart went out to Elisabeth Rohm of American Hustle movie when she fell on the red carpet as a result of her tight dress and perhaps skinny heels on rough surface rug. I have never seen this happen before on a red carpet….only on fashion runway shows. OUCH!

Fashion: Kenyan Tribal Colors

20140223_114001x copyIt has been one dreadful winter season this year in NYC. When a tiny window of warm weather opened up to a sunny 55 degrees today, it made no sense to deck out in heavy winter clothes and dull colors. I seized the opportunity in rich Kenyan inspired tribal colors (Escada and BCBG) in way of orange, lime green and multicolor beads! It definitely lifted my spirit and added a spring in my step while out and about! We’re back to 30 degrees tomorrow! 🙁 Grrr! I can’t wait for the full blown spring season ahead!

Fashion: Leather & Cape

20140211_124752x copyIt has been one long wintery season and endless snowstorms this year. To weather the storm, I opted for a cape, leather pants, fedora hat and spiked arm jacket to stay warm, well sort of.
