RIP Nelson Mandela! :(

nelsonmandelaMadiba Nelson Mandela! You will be missed. There will NEVER be another like you. This is a great dark day for all of us. We have lost a great treasure. I will never forget the positive vibe I got when I laid eyes on your prison sell at Robben Island in South Africa back in 2000. You are forever a hero! RIP! šŸ™

ā€œNo one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion,ā€ he wrote in ā€œLong Walk to Freedom.ā€

ā€œPeople must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.ā€ –Nelson Mandela (95)

White Supremacy? Think Again!

tumblr_mxau83GpLM1t5pu40o1_400Hello America! Next time before you scream “white supremacy”, think again, ala Neo Nazi Craig Cobb. Click HERE to see Solomon Northup’s (of 12 Years a Slave movie) direct descendants and tell me what you see. These are faces of many races, all stemming from a black man who served as a slave! This goes to show how the world is changing fast. You can’t keep shouting white supremacy when you yourself might have a percentage of black blood in you thanks to your great (x10) grandfather the slave master who might have rapped your great (x10) grandmother who was a slave! Or simply your great (5) mother/father who married/dated another race unbeknownst to you, and voila! Here you are, a black man in a white skin! The world is getting mixed up fast, so catch up! A kettle can’t keep calling a pot black anymore. ONE LOVE!

The Diaspora Awards

20131130_204013 copyWhat better way to spend a lovely weekend if not with friends and well accomplished individuals who all have strong cultures and great sense of humor in common. I was invited to be one of the esteemed presenters at the African Diaspora Awards under the auspices of Applause Magazine, a publication which pretty much mimics the primary purpose of what the award is all about. The African Diaspora Awards (ADA) is a special initiative that aims to celebrate exemplary individuals who have made a significant difference in the African community in the United States, as well as individuals in society who have contributed to the advancement of Africans and Africa as a whole. The ADA award is particularly aimed at motivating young and accomplished Diaspora Africans to become the change they wish for Africa. I was very honored to have been asked to partake in it. I had a lovely time meeting old friends and making new ones. Congratulations to all of the honorees which included Yaya Alafia from the hit movie “The Butler” starring Forrest Whitaker, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Leymah Gbowe from Liberia and Manyang Reath Kher for his humanitarian work in Sudan. I co-presented the Musician of the Year award with Don Osmund to Blitz the Ambassador. It was a fabulous affair!

A Crazy Black Friday Experience

20131129_123128How I have missed out on Black Fridays all these years is beyond me. Just spent $290 on items for the home that would have cost me $2900. Waterford crystal glasses, 1000 thread count sheets and many other things of necessity. And to think it’s not even noon yet! The doorbuster sales are so sick even CNN came out to cover it! Some stores had a head start since last night shortly after downing their thanksgiving turkeys! A car dealership made the news when they cleared out their lot by selling cars for a $1 each! Heading back out to see what else is out there. Would hate to miss out! Happy holidays!

Fashion: Gold & Embroidery

11It’s that time of the year for holiday festivities. For an affair last night, an embroidered peplum cap sleeve top with a pleated flared mini chiffon skirt, coupled with classic quilted bag & shoes saved the day.

Kanye West Goes Head To Head With Zappos CEO

KanyeWestKanye West has slammed the CEO of online retailer Zappos, saying he has some nerve trying to give him fashion advice.

Speaking in a podcast with Bret Easton Ellis, Kanye launched into an angry tirade about Zappos head Tony Hsieh, who he met with during a recent trip to Las Vegas to discuss a potential collaboration.

ā€œI got into this giant argument with the head of Zappos that he’s trying to tell me what I need to focus on. Meanwhile, he sells all this s**t product to everybody, his whole thing is based off of selling s**t product,ā€ said Ye.

This follows the rapper’s rant against Louis Vuitton, despite having designed a sneaker collection for the high-end brand in the past and referring to himself as the ā€œLouis Vuitton Don.ā€

However, Kanye – who has since approached popular store Gap for a more purse-friendly collaboration, but ā€œcouldn’t get past the politicsā€. Speaking of politics. President Obama weighed in on the rapper not too long ago as well!

Sigh…fashion mayhem, the saga continues. Kanye against the world? Now, that should be a song.

Below is Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh’s response to Kanye. The retail giant created a page just for Kanye showing these product with a cool price tag.

Fall In The Park

1452456_10152101136781654_1860254347_nThere’s a popular saying that “Fall is the second spring where leaves are like flowers.” Armed with my SLR camera, I set out to capture some of the best parts of the park that also captured my heart during my photography of the Nemo snow storm earlier this year. In case you missed that, be sure to check out and see if you can compare some of the locations below to what they looked like during the winter months.
