November 11, 2013, Veteran’s Day in America, a day for Americans to give thanks to all of those who have served (& still serving) to preserve our civil liberties and freedom worldwide. Also the day the US Marine Corp turned 238 years old! New Yorkers marked the day in true New York fashion with a grand street parade up fashionable 5th avenue which brought out the old and young, beauty queens and seasoned veterans. And in true American style, retail stores did not miss a beat to hawk their wares with deep discounts to lure in customers prior to the upcoming Black Friday, a day after Thanksgiving and beyond. Shortly after snapping the pictures below with my cell phone, I myself browsed the stores and made out like a thief in the night. Sigh…the devil is in the details. Anyway, peruse the pictures below. New Yorkers finally did it! Hurricane Sandy literally put sand in our bags last year, halting the 4-decade long tradition of the Halloween Parade that brings out the young and old dressed up in their favorite fantasies. The organizer set off the event with a kickstarter campaign to help raise public funds for the event. After gathering $55,000 in the bank, bagging TV personality Kelly Ripa as the Grand Marshall, the event was a go! And here are the evidence! I had a blast. The pictures below says it all. What better way to give back than to associate what one loves with helping to raise funds to find cure for Alzheimer’s. Shoeholics magazine was a proud participant of the gift bags and silent auction for the guests. It’s a disease many of us are connected to either via family members or close friends. Clad in costum-made Reem Acra, I attended the star-studded fund raising gala chaired by Princess Yasmin Aga Khan for the Alzheimer’s Association in loving memory of her mother, Actress Rita Hayworth in NYC. Just when I thought I was sick and tired of all things spiked, this huge spiked shoulder corset top came my way when I received an invitation to a punk rock theme birthday/pre-Halloween party with a few of my close friends this Saturday. I have to say it would be my very first time going full on rock in my life and I’m in love! I left no stones unturned, had ear cuffs, rings and faux hawk with my own hair for full effect. I felt confident, daring and dare I say it …FEARLESS! I might just adopt this look for a while and ride this one out all the way. I’m enjoying this new phase in my life. Life is too short for hang ups and nuances. I would gladly try anything at least once! The party was beyond FUN! Thanks to my friends Celine, Eric, Cocoa, Pierre, Bryan and Brenda for such a lovely weekend! 🙂

It was a fashion face-off that proved style has no age limit!
Oscar-winner Helen Mirren, 68, was pictured wearing the same red Dolce & Gabbana dress popstar Rita Ora, 22, wore just a few weeks previously.
The actress paired her floor-length racy lace number with a full slip allowing her shape to take centre stage in Hong Kong on Thursday, as Ora wore the transparent frock over a leopard print body, showing off her legs in all their glory. Hmm…who do you think wore it best?
