Fashionably Green For The World Cup

20140616_095706xsmlFashionably taking one for the team today. In a full World Cup spirit. All dolled up to take in the much anticipated match between Iran and Nigeria at the World Cup today. Yes, they’re worth the effort. Now I’m starting to regret why I didn’t just board the plane to see it live in Brazil. I was there 3 years ago. Oh well, the local pub will do for now. Of course, you can tell which team I’m rooting for by the green and white color hint in my attire! Fingers crossed. 🙂

Hare Krishna Festival In NYC

20140614_131148x

Just about every religion and groups organizes parades and festivals in New York and the Hare Krishnas were no exception today. I was just on 5th Avenue by chance when I heard the hypnotic chanting and it didn’t take me long before I too started dancing, snapping pictures with my smartphone and following the parade procession. I do love their music! Namaste! 🙂

Halle Berry To Pay $16,000 In Child Support

I can just imagine some divorced man battling child custody with their wealthy exes across the world celebrating this news, on Aubry taking on for the “team”. People usually hear of men paying up and not the women who are usually seen as using the kids as a meal ticket. Well, this time it’s model Gabriel. It worked against Halle Berry in this case.

A Los Angeles court has ordered Halle Berry to pay her ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry $16,000 per month to support their six-year-old daughter Nahla. The sum will be paid until the little girl turns 19 or graduates from high school – whichever comes first. The Oscar-winning actress must handover $115,000 in back payments and $300,000 to cover his legal costs. According to court documents the couple share custody of Nahla, while Gabriel, a French-Canadian model, is often seen taking Nahla to school. Halle will pay her daughter’s tuition but healthcare costs will be split.

Since the couple split in 2010, Halle Berry has since found love again with her current husband Olivier Martinez. They tied the knot in his native France on July 13, 2013 and Halle gave birth to their son, Maceo, a few months later at the age of 47.

Initially, when the relationship ended, the break up seemed amicable. Montreal-born Gabriel even released a statement saying: “Halle is, and will forever be, one of the most special and beautiful people that I have ever known and I am certain that we will continue to have only love and respect for one another.”

Sadly, they soon became locked in a difficult custory battle, centering on Halle’s wish to move their child to France. Then in 2012, Gabriel and Olivier had a fight outside the X-Men star’s home.

Celebrating The Wrap Dress With Diane von Furstenberg

20140605_160604x

Diane von Furstenberg

Just about every Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dress collector in NYC showed up at Bergdorf Goodman earlier this evening to help the iconic designer celebrate 40 years of the wrap dress. I attended the event with one of Shoeholics magazine editor Chong Cha. Guests included the always friendly and lovely first lady of Bergdorf Goodman herself, Linda Fargo. Considering I just only started collecting as of last week, I was in my element meeting other collectors at the party. I posted about the acquisition here and where you could get one. The party was the appropriate place to see someone else in the same exact dress since it was afterall in honor of the designer. It was inevitable. The reason would be because the very same chain link print I wore was first released in 1972 and happens to be one of Diane’s favorites which she herself wore for the brand’s first advertisement campaign in the 70s. The same print is also a favorite of Michelle Obama. So I was glad I wore it in Diane’s honor. At the party, there were at least 7 cameras rolling, capturing every merriment. It’s to air later this coming fall. I made some new friends, got an autographed copy of “The Wrap” book  and already eying my next Diane von Furstenberg piece to add to my growing collection. Happy 40th Diane! Congrats! 🙂

Remains of 800 Dead Babies Found In Ireland

2014064120nunIf you’ve seen the movie Philomena starring Dame Judi Dench, then you will be better prepared to understand the story here. The Irish were notorious for this in the early early to mid 20th century!

Police are investigating the discovery of 800 long-dead babies found in the septic tank at a home for unwed mothers in western Ireland. The Home (that is its actual name and, yes, it does sound freakishly ominous) housed thousands of pregnant and unwed — “fallen”— women between 1925 and 1961. The women left after they’d paid for their stay in indentured servitude. Their children, reports The Washington Post, may not have been so lucky.

A housing development and playground now stand on the land where The Home once stood. And while many would like to forget the horrible things that went on there, the discovery of the 800 infants (and possibly more, once excavation starts) is dredging up many memories for the locals.

“The bones are still there,” local historian Catherine Corless, who uncovered the origins of the mass grave in a batch of never-before-released documents, told The Washington Post in a phone interview. “The children who died in the Home, this was them.”

“When daughters became pregnant, they were ostracized completely,” Corless said. “Families would be afraid of neighbors finding out, because to get pregnant out of marriage was the worst thing on Earth. It was the worst crime a woman could commit, even though a lot of the time it had been because of a rape.”

There were many reasons children died at The Home. According to Corless, children died regularly of malnutrition and neglect. Others died “of measles, convulsions, TB, gastroenteritis and pneumonia.” The survival rates of children at The Home were awful, and even if a child did survive, their existence was a painful one. Corless told The Washington Post that her research into The Home is a way to make amends for some of the ways the “Home Babies” were treated by their teachers and their classmates.

“If you acted up in class, some nuns would threaten to seat you next to the Home Babies,” she said. She said she recalled one instance in which an older schoolgirl wrapped a tiny stone in a bright candy wrapper and gave it to a Home Baby as a gift.

“When the child opened it, she saw she’d been fooled,” Corless told Irish Central. “Of course, I copied her later and I tried to play the joke on another little Home girl. I thought it was funny at the time…. Years after, I asked myself what did I do to that poor little girl that never saw a sweet? That has stuck with me all my life. A part of me wants to make up to them.”

Still, even Corless doesn’t understand how the “Home Babies” who sometimes died at a rate of two per week were given such an awful end, stuffed into a septic tank and then left to be forgotten. Corless remembers that a group of teenagers stumbled upon the mass grave in 1995, and the pit they discovered, full to overflowing with skulls and limbs, gives them nightmares to this day.

Locals who want to forget the whole grisly business will have a much harder time now that police are involved.

“God knows who else is in the grave,” one anonymous source told the Daily Mail. “It’s been lying there for years, and no one knows the full extent of the total of bodies down there.”

Jonah Hill Uses Homophobic Slur

22 Jump Street actor Jonah Hill has been known to be an advocate of Gay rights and was vocal against the Russia Olympic Gay phobia when all of that went down. But how do you explain his homophobic slur against a paparazzi caught on tape in California saying, “Suck my dick, faggot!”? He has since been on a TV talk show whirlwind apologizing left and right about the slur that could potentially damage the ticket sales of his new movie and his entire career! This now leaves me to think twice about celebrities championing gay rights for their own benefits, press exposure and gaining fans in the gay community when in fact deep down in their hearts they are the opposite. I believe that people generally speak their REAL mind when angry before calming down and realizing the damage. Anger amplifies what we humans really think and not the other way around. Granted, paparazzi can be a pest but to attack them back is pointless because you only end up giving them what they want. Jonah had to apologize and look sincere if he wants to save his movie and career. Oh dear…

Well, view the Oscar worthy apology below.

Rihanna Bares It All At The CFDA Awards –Literally!

riri2

When all of your body parts are still perky and tight, yes you can afford to go naked/wear see-through dresses to a red carpet event like Rihanna did today at the CFDA Awards where she received the Fashion Icon Award. In true Rihanna style, she turned the place inside out in a daring number ala Grace Jones, Madonna, Cher and many others before her. It might be safe to say she pushed the envelope farther though. Perhaps inspired by Elizabeth Berkely’s outfit from the movie Showgirls. Well, the stakes to stay relevant and current is now much higher for celebrities in the saturated social media/digital age we live in now. Rihanna definitely got our attention with this one.

Designer Zac Posen called the pop star a fashion risk-taker, who skillfully melds red-carpet glamour with a rebellious streak. ‘She takes risks and she marches to her own drum and she knows what she likes,’ Posen told The Associated Press in an interview. ‘It’s been an incredible journey.’

You almost forget that Lady Gaga once received the same award! Kudos Rihanna! For more red carpet looks see Shoeholics coverage.

Bride Attaches Baby To Her Wedding Dress

Traditionally, baby should come after the nuptials. So, are you one of those getting married after popping a baby and want to feel guilt-free about it? Well, here’s an idea seen on Jezebel:

After news broke that a Tennessee bride had altered her wedding dress to accommodate her infant child being dragged down the aisle behind her, Shona Carter-Brooks defended her sartorial choice, explaining that her “1 month old was awake and well secured on my train.”

Carter-Brooks shot to fame because when she got married last month to Jonathon Brooks, she had her Vera Wang dress altered so her daughter Aubrey could be attached to it as she walked down the aisle. (It’s unclear what happened to Aubrey once Carter-Brooks reached the altar.)

In a statement on her Facebook page, Carter-Brooks wrote:

Ripley TN we den went exclusive, we made the radio The Official KBLX Fan Pagetoday! People questioning what we do, commenting all negative, and just doing the most. We good though we covered by the Blood which never loose its power. So to the media, radio, news, and whomever else wanting to talk about what WE do here you go: Media Media I see how it works regardless the situation or purpose people gone have something negative to say! The answer is we do what we want when we want long as Jesus on our side everything worked out fine and gone continue to be fine. Our 1 month old was awake and well secured on my train. Most important while yall got ya feelings in us we had our hearts in Christ which covers all!! So keep ya mouths running for it was just that Exclusive and Epic enough we made top blog way from small town Ripley, TN and the social media doing what they do, TALK!!!! Who paid yall for yall comments, none so watch us as we do us! Too bless for mess!! Thank God we aint no celebrities oops got fans, guess we is! Sign off Mr & Mrs Brooks!!

When declining to comment to BuzzFeed, Carter-Brooks said in an email, “Understood everyone entitled to their own opinion so all I have to say is God bless you!” It’s so comforting that even though sometimes it feels like life is pointless, we have people out there proving that it’s worth it to keep going, if only to watch them live.

Apparently, the designer of the dress, Vera Wang was not impressed. Well, you can somewhat say you’ve seen it all now.

Brazilian Boy Does Surgery To Become Asian

The picture of the gentleman you are seeing below is the same person! According to Korea Herald, a Brazilian man has had plastic surgery in order to look more Oriental, a local media outlet reported.

Cosmetic procedures, such as silicone implants, lip surgery or other augmentations, are nothing unusual in Brazil. But the 25-year-old man went a step further to transform himself into Asian-looking man by making alterations to his eyes.

Xiahn, who asked not to be named to protect his family from Internet scrutiny, underwent 10 surgical procedures on his eyes, along with other less-invasive procedures, which cost him around $3,100. He also began wearing contact lenses to change his eye color.

Originally blue-eyed with blonde hair, he became interested in having plastic surgery after spending some time as an exchange student in Korea. He was inspired by how common plastic surgery is here.

“Koreans have many surgeries to modify the shape of their eyes and become more like Westerners. It was easy to tell when one of them had done it, walking on the street wearing sunglasses and a surgical mask,” he said.

People think that all Asian eyes look the same, but he is just happy that he got the right look. “I have no regrets, and I don’t intend to have any more procedures,” he concluded.

This is what I have to say in conclusion, OUCH!!!!! The world is full of confused people, whites tanning to look dark, dark people bleaching to look light. I give up! Boob job, nose job, butt job. I don’t know if I’m coming or going. Where do I go to look like Pocahontas? Sigh…

Fashion: All Wrapped Up Like Michelle Obama

20140601_120207x copy

FINALLY! I got my very own Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress! It took me long enough. And what better way to start than with the iconic chain link print maxi dress, the very same style chosen by First Lady Michelle Obama (shown below) as her favorite. I guess I’m off to a very good start! If it’s good enough for her it’s definitely all well with me. Got it last week and couldn’t wait for the weekend to roll around to dust about town in it! I added a touch of multi bangles & a red heart crystal brooch from VoodooSoles.com to hold the belt. I’m loving it and can not wait to get more.

to get your very own. It’s so worth it! 🙂
