You would never guess what I walked into while on my way to a much needed yoga class on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in NYC. In a city that never sleeps, anything goes. I walked into an ongoing Cannabis (#Marijuana, #420, #pot) rally where young and old supporters chanted and rallied about “fighting the power and not the flower”! I soon put my cell phone to work to capture the event. Naturally, you can expect a couple of actual weed smokers to fill through the cracks moonlighting as regular cigarette smokers. The distinctive stench was very present in the air. I personally have never smoked anything in my life but couldn’t resist snapping a shot with the giant weed mascot for my collection. I say better to legalize the “flower” and let’s call it a day! It would fetch good tax revenue for the government and reduce marijuana trade crime related bust and we can all be happy!

Meanwhile, across the street was another rally for the 200 kidnapped young girls in Nigeria. The supporters all wore colorful head wraps, a homage to the traditional attire of the native country where the abduction happened. Both events were at Union Square, a desired location for rallies and protests for centuries. It’s going to be one busy summer in the city this year. Namaste!

Rally for the 200 kidnapped kids in Nigeria right across from the Cannabis parade on Union Square

This is the ultimate love story. A couple in upstate New York have killed themselves in an apparent joint suicide by jumping in front of a freight train on Sunday.

Earl and Mary Myatt were killed by an oncoming train on tracks near Verona just moments after calling their son and apologizing for what was about to happen.

‘He called me at 1:35, and at 1:37, they were dead,’ the couple’s 30-year-old son Brad Myatt said.

‘He just said he loved me and he was sorry,’ Brad told the Utica Observer-Dispatch.

Police found a suicide note in Mr Myatt’s car and surveillance footage indicates that they were purposefully waiting for the right moment. 

‘We have witnesses who said they heard a warning horn … but there is video that shows they stood right on the tracks waiting for it to come,’ state trooper spokesman Jack Keller told the Utica Observer-Dispatch.

Mr Keller said that is is not clear why they chose that particular point in the train’s path, as Verona is about six miles away from their hometown of Oneida.

He added that the investigation is still ongoing and they are talking to family and friends to get a better understanding of what happened leading up to their deaths.

Troopers will also be staging a reconstruction of the crash to see if the train slowed at all before hitting the long-married couple.

The stress of deteriorating health was weighing down heavily on the couple, who were both 59-years-old, as Mrs Myatt was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm in late January.

She spent a month in intensive care and underwent several surgeries, the most recent only two weeks ago.

Her two sons and husband visited her constantly but struggled to see her in pain as her motor functions and abilities were reduced to that of a toddler.

Even in her final moments, when Mr Myatt put his wife on the phone with Brad, he said ‘I’ll see you soon’ and he was unable to understand her response, which he said was common after the diagnosis.

‘He was saddened by what she had been reduced to… He missed his wife,’ Brad Myatt said.

‘We’re devastated… but I want everyone to know that my father was a good man, and my mother was an angel who would do anything for anybody.’

The couple met when they were 17 years old and had been married for 42 years at the time of their death.

He rearranged his work schedule at the Mohawk Valley Community College bookstore so that he started at 3.30am and was able to finish earlier in the afternoon in order to spend more time with his ailing wife.

‘We were spoiled in receiving two fantastic parents,’ Brad told Syracuse.com.

‘She was his world.’

So sad. My heart goes out to their family. 🙁

Special thanks to some of you dear friends who helped decide on facebook the final ensemble I wore to the royal charity gala. I opted for Ralph Lauren white gown, Louboutin white shoes (sorry forgot to picture it), Escada pink swarovski encrusted clutch and finished the look with vintage diamond and fresh water pearls jewelry collection created by various designers from my collection. The gala was in honor of His Royal Highnesses Karl Friedrich von Hohenzollern which was a success. I was delighted to see some of my friends like Caroline (pictured below) and made many more new friends. I think I forgot to wear my mascara though. Oh well! Shortly after that, I headed downtown to salsa the night away with friends and family. I’m still recovering! TGIF!

OMG!!!! Sue Simmons a 30+ years TV news anchor dropped the F word mid broadcast! The word came from the belly with sincerity and guts! However she has since apologized for the fiasco. This goes to show how we are all human even while under duress. Oh dear! Poor Sue! Hang in there sister! OUCH!

The Singapore passport remains one of the most welcomed by countries around in the world. As of last year, holders of the passport got visa-free access to 167 of 219 countries surveyed for the latest Visa Restrictions Index. It was ranked sixth internationally – alongside Australia and Greece – for the unrestricted access it offers.

Citizens of Finland, Sweden and the United Kingdom held the best passports for global travel last year, with visa-free access to 173 countries.

I’m praying this is not a hoax because I’m a huge fan of the Scandal TV series and would love to see it on the big screen as well….with none other than Denzel Washington!

Sources have revealed that due to the enormous success of the Scandal television series, Shonda Rhimes has planned a Scandal movie, which is tentatively set to be released in the spring of 2015. The film will feature Denzel Washington in the starring role as the Mayor of Atlanta.

Details are still cloudy about the film, but Kerry Washington is confirmed as a co-star alongside Denzel Washington (no relation).  Shonda Rhimes sat down with Zay of www.MapeNation.com to discuss some of the ideas behind the film.

“Scandal has really gained a lot of loyal fans of the show,” she said. “I’m very proud to be able to provide a series that keeps people so glued to their television sets. So I wanted to take it to the next level.  I wanted to bring Scandal to the big screen…and trust me, you haven’t seen anything yet.”

Some of the stars rumored to be appearing in the film include: Denzel and Kerry, Columbus Short, Tony Goldwyn, Guillermo Diaz, Tyler Perry, and Nene Leakes.  Small appearances by some of the other cast members of Housewives of Atlanta cast are also expected.

When asked for a teaser about the plot, Shonda revealed, “I can’t say too much, but Olivia Pope finally leaves DC for a new start.  She ends up working as crisis management for the Mayor of Atlanta (Denzel Washington) and that’s when things get hairy.”

Apparently, Shonda Rhimes, writer of Scandal and other known hit series such Grey’s Anatomy, wants to create the ultimate drama film.  Denzel Washington also appears to be excited about that project.  “I’ve been watching the series and I’m really proud of Ms. Washington for all the success she’s having,” Denzel said. “I want to offer my talents to such an amazing story. I think it will be well received.”

Filming will begin after Washington, who is currently pregnant, births her child and recovers.

The interest in this film is sure to skyrocket, considering the success the show has seen.  Every Thursday, fans are glued to their television sets to watch the drama of Olivia Pope unfold.  If the show goes to the next level as Shonda promised, I’m sure it’s going to set box office records and make a lot of people happy.

While many companies moonlight as “non-profit” organizations throwing lavishing galas and pocketing the majority of the profit as “proceeds for charity”, a little known catering company “Fleurimond Catering” celebrated a 12 year anniversary of organizing lavish galas except that it’s for profit with proceeds going to charity! Now, that’s what I call a selfless act of courage! The brains behind the operation is non other than a petite hardworking Nadege Fleurimond who has taken advantage of her personal and professional networks to put together a party that could rival any mega million dollars and star studded fete. Yearly, she gathers her well established friends and colleagues dressed up to the nines as if going to the Oscars, and yes I mean complete elegance to dance, eat and network while at the same time donating some of the proceeds to charity! You see, she calls it what it is by making it transparent from the start that it’s not a “non-profit” affair. Annually, she chooses a charity organization of choice to benefit from the fete. This year, the the honor of the masquerade ball theme event went to Haiti Cultural Exchange. Nadege is Haitian by heritage, so it’s only befitting that she would use the opportunity to give back to her community.

I was honored to represent Shoeholics as one of the esteemed guests. For such a selfless cause, it was a no brainer to get the magazine to participate as well. Every lucky guests went home with a copy of Shoeholics magazine in their gift bags! I even came close to winning an iPad for “Best Mask”! I was the first runner up, loosing out to a lovely lady in gold lace mask whose picture I couldn’t stop taking prior to the contest. Her ensemble was old Hollywood glamour and the way the light kept hitting her as she danced made her a perfect photographer’s subject. I was enamored with her, along with about 3 other photographers who couldn’t get enough of her either. With a unique mask like that with draped white feathers over her gown certainly is deceiving of the award. I was happy to loose to such an elegant sight. I was so carried away that I completely forget to ask for her name! Silly me. Nevertheless, I had so much fun and made loads of new friends! Merci Beaucoup Fleurimond Catering! A bientot mon cheri!
